PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Wombman, The Play is based on 4 young girls and follows them into adulthood. The girls become really good friends and find out quickly they have a lot in common. They seek to find their identity amidst the images and stereotypes of society. They thrive to become their own wombmen in a world of masculine dominance. They seek to find their true selves and define their own beauty through self love and acceptance.
 


CHARACTERS
     
MAYA (9-30 Female )
curvy, darker skin tone. She is insecure about her body image.Maya: Starts off as a young African American girl. Who doesn't want to grow up to be like her mother. Ages 9-10 and Young Adult 20-30
   
ANNA (9-30 Female )
(Mexican, black hair) is Maya's childhood best friend. Her family is the first generation of Mexican Americans in the United States. She comes from an abusive household where male dominance rules.
   
VANESSA (9-30 Female )
blonde)girl next door,comes from a single family household. Her father left her and her mother to remarry and create a new family. She has abandonment issues Ages 9-10 and Young Adult 20-30
   
EMAN (9-30 Female )
(Bi-racial) lighter to fairer skin tone, militant, rebellious, self image issues She has an identity crisis. She is volatile. Ages 9-10 and Young Adult 20-30
   
JOYCE (MAYA’S MOTHER)( (30-35 Female )
FULL FIGURE: A 30 something year old woman, married to John (Maya's father). Maya's mother is a nurse. She had Maya at 18 and married at 20. She's timid. Co-dependent and suffers from depression.
   
JOHN (MAYA’S FATHER): (30-35 Male )
A 30 something year old man. He works in construction. He is verbally and mentally abusive. He degrades his wife in front of his children. He is a fairly tall man, above average weight. He's an alcoholic. (multiple roles)
   
ROSA (ANNA’S MOTHER) (38-42 Female )
(Mexican), is a homemaker. She doesn't speak English very well. Age: Between 40-50
   
JOSE (ANNA’S FATHER) (40-50 Female )
Jose (Anna's father) (Mexican) who is a mechanic. Her father is also abusive and an alcoholic. (multiple roles) Age: Between 40-50
   
STEVE (EMAN’S FATHER) (30-37 Male )
is also bi-racial. He is part Caucasian and Mexican. He is in his late 40s. He is the Vice President of a big corporation.
   
BREE (EMAN’S MOTHER (30-36 Female )
Bree (Eman's mother) is African American. She is in her mid to late 30s. She is a therapist.
